Lasik Surgery Hospital

1) Lasik (Laser Refractive Surgery)

LASIK is a short form Laser Assisted in Situ Keratomileusis. Lasik is a trusted laser eye operation for correction of Myopia (Short-sightedness), Hyperopia (Far-sightedness) and Astigmatism (Blurred Vision).
Bladeless LASIK surgery: Bladeless LASIK surgery allows a surgeon to adjust the size of the corneal flap, depending on the eye structure of each patient.

Elite Eye Hospital has the latest technology and experienced surgeons performing LASIK operation. Popularly known as a laser vision correction surgery, LASIK is a safe and a painless operation for a lifetime of clearer vision.

During LASIK surgery, an instrument called microkeratome is used to create a corneal flap and then a computerized “Excimer Laser” is used to guide a beam of light that reshapes the corneal curvature, so that the light entering the eye can be concentrated on the retina for a clearer vision. The corneal flap when replaced on a new corneal curvature allows images to be accurately focused on the retina, thus offering a clearer vision.

Who is a candidate for LASIK:
i) LASIK surgery is a practical option for patients with blurred vision, refractive error(difficulty is viewing far or nearby images).

ii) Candidates who are dissatisfied with their contact lenses or eyeglasses.

Test to confirm if you are a good candidate for Laser Vision Correction:

Before a Lasik operation a patient needs to undergo a few test to determine if you are a good candidate for Laser Vision Correction

How long does the surgery last:

LASIK surgery lasts anywhere from 30 minutes to 1 hour, after which the patient is allowed to go home the same day.

Recovery time for LASIK:

Different types of Laser Refractive Surgery

LASIK is the most common Laser eye surgery. There are newer methods and advanced techniques offering highest level of accuracy and safety.

i) PRK (Photorefractive Keratectomy):

PRK was the first laser eye surgery technique before LASIK. In the PRK technique the entire outer epithelial layer of the cornea is removed to expose the area as compared to the corneal flap created in LASIK technique. After the cornea is exposed the Excimer laser is used to reshape the corneal curvature. The recovery time is slow as compared to LASIK surgery; since the epithelial cells have to grow back.

ii) PRK technique is suitable for patients who have a thin cornea.
ii) Since the whole surface cells of the cornea are removed the risk of removing too much of the cornea with the Excimer laser during the operation is reduced.

ii) PTK (Phototherapeutic keratectomy)
